WHO DG candidate’s event in Fiji

April 25, 2017: Sania Nishtar spoke at a candidates’ event organized by the government of Fiji and the Pacific Islands forum during the Pacific Heads of Health meeting which was held on April 25. This event was organized for candidates of WHO DG. She also met with volunteers and government officials, got to wear a traditional dress and learnt about the challenges facing Fiji and the Pacific region.

March 31, 2017: At the beautiful UNASUR headquarters in Ecuador on March 31, Sania Nishtar met Member States from the South America region and put forward her vision for accelerating reform within the WHO. Along with the other two finalists for WHO DG, David Nabarro and TedrosAdanhom, she spoke at a press conference and a panel discussion for WHO DG nominees.

May 4, 2017:  Pakistan’s rich and diverse civil society stand behind Sania Nishtar’s candidacy with aletter to Member States of the World Health Assembly urging them to support the candidacy. The letter was signed by 122 civil society organizations and can be accessed here. As Sania Nishtar starts her 17-country trip-to Europe, the last leg on the election tour, eminent leaders from Europe such as Pekka Puska announce their endorsement as well. April 27, 2017: Support for Sania Nishtar’s candidature for WHO soars as stalwarts such as Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired, Harvard former dean of public health school Barry Bloom and Musimbi Kanyoro, head of the global Fund for Women endorse her candidature. One of the most significant endorsements came as a letter of support from the Steering Committee of the Emerging Markets Symposium Initiative of the Green Templeton College, Oxford University.
