June 3, 2013: Dr. Sania Nishtar, in her capacity as the Federal Minister with three portfolios and the government’s focal person on health headed Pakistan’s delegation to the annual 66th World Health Assembly, hosted by the World Health organization in Geneva, Switzerland from May 20-28, 2013. The World Health Assembly, which is the supreme decision-making WHO body, drew on Ministers and officials from 194 Member states that congregated to undertake annual review of the activities of WHO and set new set priorities for the future. The Health Assembly this year focused on discussing specific health topics like non-communicable diseases, universal health coverage, women and children’s health, as well as the programme budget, administration, reform and management matters of WHO.
