Heartfile is a non-profit health sector NGO think tank, which focuses on catalyzing change within the health system and broader systems of governance in order to improve health and social outcomes; the organization is recognized as a powerful and respected health policy voice within Pakistan and a unique model for replication in other developing countries.

The organization has linkages with numerous local and international organizations, as outlined under Partnerships below and receives funding support from a number of sources; however, the main support comes from the intellectual contributions of its Founder and President.
 
The organization's scope of work within Pakistan involves:
 
 
Strengthening the evidence base for health reform Health Reforms
Spearheading Pakistan's Health Policy Forum
Reorienting health priorities in the wake of the epidemiological transition
Performing public health research
Publishing and disseminating original resource materials

The organization's international scope of work centres on developing innovations in the health sector and contributing to knowledge in the areas of health policy and public health planning for low-resource settings

Heartfile is a non-profit organization registered under Pakistan's Societies' Registration Act XXI of 1860, with the official registration number RS/ICT/317/1999.

Heartfile is a Trustee member of the Paris-based International Union for Health Promotion and Education and a member of the World Heart Federation

Through the Founder President’s involvement with many agencies, it has linkages with the World Health Organization , World Economic Forum , Clinton Global Initiative , Rockefeller Foundation , Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research , the Lancet and other international agencies

The organization receives support from many bilateral and multilateral donor agencies and private foundations.

Through the Heartfile-hosted Pakistan's Health Policy Forum the organization has developed a large membership base of local and international agencies and has developed a virtual platform to network them and facilitate dialogue

The organization has worked extensively in collaboration with government agencies in Pakistan and had lent impetus to and helped in launching new initiatives. In partnership with the Ministry of Health and the WHO Pakistan office it led the creation of the National Plan on NCDs and the National Health Policy and collaborated with the Federal Bureau of Statistics to develop a mechanism of tracking health information in the country

Heartfile is also networked with a range of individual experts though it’s various initiatives. To cite examples, a large number of experts were involved in the peer review process of the Heartfile-led national plan on NCDs and a range of stakeholders were involved in the consultative process led by Heartfile to develop a Scaffold for a Health Policy

Linkages with partners and stakeholders are further promoted through a system of regular news postings
