June 10, 2025. Dr Nishtar was deeply impressed by African commitment as ten heads of state and vice-
presidents, ministers from 20 countries and global partners united to fight cholera. She praised leaders
including presidents from Angola, DRC, Ghana, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia, along with
vice-presidents from South Sudan, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Dr Nishtar highlighted Gavi’s support, noting
the oral cholera vaccine stockpile has grown from just 2 million doses in 2013 to over 70 million doses
projected for this year alone.
