Islamabad | October 17, 2025 – A tobacco awareness and health education session was organized at Margala Hotel Islamabad for public health students from the Health Services Academy, focusing on the health risks of tobacco use and emerging nicotine products.
The session provided students with updated knowledge on harms associated with both smokeless tobacco products (SLTs) and new tobacco and nicotine products (NTNPs), including e-cigarettes, heated tobacco devices, and oral nicotine pouches. Participants were briefed on the increasing uptake of these products among youth and the marketing practices that falsely portray them as safer alternatives.
Through interactive discussions and evidence-based presentations, students learned about addiction risks, health consequences, and the critical role of public health professionals in tobacco prevention, cessation support, and community awareness. The session also underscored Pakistan’s evolving tobacco control landscape and the importance of youth-centered advocacy and policy engagement.
This activity is part of ongoing efforts to equip future public health leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to counter tobacco industry influence and promote a healthier, smoke-free Pakistan.
